1. Prepare your space. Find a quiet place where no one will interrupt you. Cleanse the area beforehand with sandalwood, copal or palo santo incense, and stand the candle on a large plate or tray so the wax can flow freely.
2. Connect with your intention. Hold the candle in your hands, close your eyes and breathe deeply. Visualise what you want to let go of: a specific problem, a personal blockage or an influence you wish to cut.
3. Recite the prayer. Read it slowly, with feeling and with conviction. Words have power and they direct the candle's energy.
4. Light the candle. Use a wooden match rather than a lighter, to keep the ritual pure. Let it burn unhurried; if you need to put it out, use a candle snuffer or moistened fingers and relight it later until it has completed its cycle.
5. Observe and give thanks. Notice how the flame and the wax behave: every detail is a message. When it has finished, give thanks.
