Between the winter solstice and Epiphany, lighting a candle is a way to close the year with gratitude and open the next one with intention. In this guide we explain which candle to light at Christmas and on New Year’s Eve, what each colour means and how to do your ritual with our golden Christmas Candle.
Quick answer: on New Year’s Eve you light a candle to let go of the year that is ending and open paths to the new one. Gold attracts abundance and light; red, love and strength; green, prosperity; white, peace. The most special nights are the solstice (21 December), Christmas Eve (24th), New Year’s Eve (31st) and Epiphany (6 January).
Choose what you want to renew for the new year and we’ll prepare your ritual with the Christmas Candle: your ideal night according to the moon, your decree, the candle to go with it and the steps, on a card you can save.

Choose what you want to renew for the new year: we’ll prepare your ideal night, your decree and your ritual with the Christmas Candle.
What do you want to renew for the new year?
The winter solstice is the longest night of the year. From then on the days grow longer again, which is why lighting a candle at this time of year is inviting the light back home.
At Christmas the candle keeps family and home company; on New Year’s Eve it helps you close a cycle, give thanks for what you’ve lived and set an intention for the year ahead. The most receptive period runs from the solstice to 6 January.
| Night | Date | Ideal for |
|---|---|---|
| Winter solstice | 21 December | Renewing your energy, attracting abundance and health |
| Christmas Eve | 24 December | Love, family, gratitude |
| New Year’s Eve | 31 December | Letting go of the year and closing cycles |
| Epiphany | 6 January | Planting wishes and projects |
The moon phase of each night changes every year: the experience above works it out for you. You’ll find all the other dates in our lunar calendar.
Our Christmas Candle is handmade for this time of year: it renews your energy, opens paths and keeps your wishes company for the new year. Its golden touches also make it a lovely piece for the home.
It comes with printed instructions and a prayer. It is lit on a single night and left to burn down completely, always under supervision.
