🔥 The power of the 4 elements

When working with candles, it is very common to ask the 4 elements for protection and strength to accompany us during the ritual. Each element has a different energy and meaning beyond its natural definition, and we can also divide them into masculine and feminine energies. These 4 forces hold great importance in magic, as they possess exceptional wisdom: they control the order and cycle of nature.

These energies act as pillars in magical and spiritual practice because they help us channel intentions according to their qualities. Fire 🔥 transforms and purifies; water 💧 cleanses and connects with intuition; air 🌬️ inspires and moves the mind; and earth 🌱 sustains, nurtures, and materializes.

When you invoke the elements, you are awakening their forces within you. However, it is important to learn to balance them to achieve harmony in any ritual, as they represent the balance between action and receptivity, the visible and the invisible, the material and the subtle.

How can we work with the 4 elements?

Male element. It represents the movement, its cardinal point is the east and we will work it with light blue candles . Air is a good conductor, and it can help us in communication , and to release energies at the mental level. It is closely related to the intellect and mental aspects . When we need to work something gently, we can turn to the air element. Requests for peace and clarity of mind, meditation or communication can be made with your energy.

Feminine element. It represents life, that to which we are rooted. Its cardinal point is north and we will work it with brown candles . Earth is the place where we are reborn over and over again, where we have our emotions and experiences . The land is creation, therefore it is good to make requests for prosperity, work issues or search for new opportunities and paths .

Feminine element. It represents the subconscious , that part of our mind that escapes our control. Its cardinal point is the west and it works with navy blue sails . The magic of water is used for love, friendship and health . It helps us relax body, mind and spirit. It is a key element in energy cleansing rituals .

Male element. It is considered the most powerful of the four elements , since it is very earthly and spiritual at the same time. It represents the changes, the transmutation . Its cardinal point is the south and it is worked with red candles . Fire consumes everything that is subjected to it, it helps us heal and destroy . It is also very good at working on passion , both in romantic terms and in other aspects of life such as strength , courage or drive .

Known as ether, spirit, or soul, it is the energy that unifies and gives meaning to the 4 physical elements: fire, air, water, and earth. Unlike these, which manifest in the earthly plane, ether belongs to the subtle and spiritual realm. It is the space where everything happens, the invisible energy that connects everything, the breath of life.

In many traditions, ether represents pure consciousness, elevated intuition, and the bond with the divine. It is associated with the center of the circle when the elements are drawn, symbolizing the point of union and balance. It is the element that sustains magic in its most transcendent dimension, and that which allows connection with spiritual guides, higher planes, and our deepest self.

Working with the fifth element involves opening up to inner listening, meditating, channeling messages, and acting from the soul. It is the highest part of the human being and activates when the other 4 elements are in balance and harmony with our essence.

One of the most direct and traditional ways to discover which of the 4 elements represents you is through your solar zodiac sign, that is, the sign corresponding to your birth date.

🜂 Fire – Aries, Leo, and Sagittarius

This group is characterized by its intensity, drive, and great inner strength. Fire people are passionate, dynamic, brave, and usually have a strong need to act and leave a mark. They are connected with the power of transformation, willpower, and creative energy. They tend to illuminate and spread enthusiasm to those around them, but they can also be impulsive or dominant if they don’t channel their inner fire well.

🜃 Earth – Taurus, Virgo, and Capricorn

Earth signs are deeply rooted in the concrete, material, and physical. If you belong to this group, your energy is linked to stability, consistent work, security, and connection with nature. Earth people are practical, realistic, organized, and value the tangible. They have a great ability to build, sustain, and make real what others only imagine. Their challenge is often to loosen control and open up to emotions or spirituality.

🜁 Air – Gemini, Libra, and Aquarius

The air element represents thought, communication, and the capacity for vision. If your sign belongs to this group, you are mentally active, curious, sociable, and have a strong need to share ideas. Air signs are in constant intellectual movement and usually have a broad and detached vision of things. They find it hard to ground themselves in the concrete, but they are brilliant at connecting concepts and generating new ways to see the world.

🜄 Water – Cancer, Scorpio, and Pisces

Water signs are deeply linked to the emotional, spiritual, and subconscious world. If you are water, you are sensitive, intuitive, compassionate, and have a rich inner life. These people easily perceive the emotions of others and have a strong connection with the invisible. Their energy is fluid, receptive, and healing, but they can get lost in melancholy or emotional confusion if they don’t find grounding.

The 4 elements are living energies that dwell within us and all around us. Once we understand their qualities and learn to work with them, we develop a deeper connection with our essence and the universe. Each element has a purpose, a lesson, and a transformative power that, when integrated into our spiritual practice, guides us toward balance and inner expansion.

Whether you seek energetic cleansing, to attract prosperity, improve your communication, or awaken your inner strength, by invoking the 4 elements you can channel the right energy for each intention. At Las Velas de Mariano, we believe in conscious magic and the ancestral power of the elements. That is why each of our prepared large candles is designed to help you connect with the elemental energy you need to activate.

Remember: working with the elements is returning to the essentials. Because everything you are, and everything you seek, begins in the harmony of earth, water, fire, and air. And when they unite... the soul awakens 🌱
