You recognise sunstone by moving it: the golden flashes appear and vanish depending on how the light catches it. It is the stone tradition puts on the side of drive, directly opposite moonstone.
💎 What is sunstone?
Sunstone is a feldspar with metallic inclusions in the form of tiny platelets. Those platelets are what throw the light back as golden flashes when you turn the stone, an effect it shares with aventurine and its most recognisable feature. The shade runs from orange to coppery gold. It is a little softer than quartz, so it appreciates not being knocked.
✨ Attributed properties
- Getting out of apathy when nothing will start
- Confidence to take your place without apologising
- Drive through the dark months or any stretch with no energy
- Daring to say yes to something that feels too big
- Vitality in the most physical sense
🌙 The best time to wear it
It is for everyday wear, and it makes most sense in the low-energy stretches: winter, a recovery, a run of low spirits. To cleanse and recharge it, tradition sets it in the morning sun for a while, not the midday sun, and on a Waxing Moon🌒 if you want to pair it with the phase the workshop links to attracting.
How to wear it
Worn, and worn daily, which is how bracelets work. Many people wear it on the right wrist, the side tradition treats as the one that projects, precisely because what is asked of this stone is that it push outwards rather than gather in. The inside is an elastic cord: it goes on by stretching gently, without rolling it over a finger or forcing it. If you like setting an intention, hold it to the light until you find the flashes before you put it on.
🤝 Pairs well with
With the citrine chip bracelet, the classic pairing for drive and abundance. With tumbled tiger’s eye when, beyond the drive, you need the nerve to act. And if you want the opposite, moonstone is its traditional counterpart: one gathers in, the other projects.
Frequently asked questions
Are sunstone and moonstone the same?
They are two different feldspars and tradition uses them as a pair: moonstone is credited with gathering in, intuition and cycles; sunstone with projecting, drive and confidence. Plenty of people wear them together for exactly that reason.
Why do the flashes come and go?
Because of the platelet-shaped metallic inclusions inside: they only throw the light back at the right angle. That is why the sparkle travels as you turn your wrist, and why it shows best in direct light.
Will all the chips look the same?
No. They are chips of natural mineral, so they vary in shape, size and how much they flash. Within the same bracelet some will be livelier than others.

🧼 Cleaning and care
Wipe it with a dry or barely damp cloth. Do not submerge it: the stone is softer than quartz and, above all, the elastic cord dries out with water and soap and eventually gives. Take it off for the shower, the pool and the sea, and store it unstretched somewhere dry.
